Start With the Right Fit

Find Your Place in Jensen Beach

Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community in the northeast corner of Martin County. US 1 forms its northwest edge, with Rio to the south, Sewall's Point to the southeast, Stuart to the southwest, and Port St. Lucie (St. Lucie County) to the north. Because it is unincorporated, county rules and county services apply to many addresses, and Jensen Beach mailing addresses extend onto Hutchinson Island. Confirm the jurisdiction, tax district, and service providers for any specific property before relying on assumptions.

Why People Consider Jensen Beach

Jensen Beach combines a small-town downtown with lagoon frontage and an Atlantic beach a short causeway away. The community grew around pineapple farming, and by the 1890s it was known as a pineapple capital. That history still shows in the historic buildings around the center of town. Downtown is also Martin County's first Community Redevelopment Area, so streetscape, drainage, and public space projects are an ongoing part of life there. The right location depends on whether you want walkable dining, room for a boat or pool, or a condominium steps from the sand. Each choice carries different traffic patterns, maintenance needs, and ownership costs.

The Daily Experience

Living in Jensen Beach

Downtown, Events, and Dining

Downtown Jensen Beach hosts community events through the year, including Jammin' Jensen, a free weekly Thursday-evening gathering that typically runs from 6 to 10 pm. The traditional Pineapple Festival is no longer held as a multi-day street festival, but the community's pineapple heritage still shows downtown. Check the Jensen Beach Chamber of Commerce and Discover Martin for current events, and visit when you expect to be out, because the experience changes by day and season.

Beaches and the Lagoon

Jensen Sea Turtle Beach, at 4191 NE Ocean Boulevard where A1A meets the causeway, has lifeguards, restrooms, showers, and picnic areas. Indian RiverSide Park, on 63 acres of lagoon frontage, offers a fishing pier, a mangrove boardwalk, a splash fountain, the Treasure Coast Children's Museum, and the U.S. Sailing Center of Martin County. A county-run mooring field near the causeway serves boaters, and the Martin County Blueway paddling trail covers a 16.2-mile lagoon segment between Jensen Beach and Hobe Sound.

Parks and Nature

Savannas Preserve State Park and its Hawk's Bluff trail, at 4698 NE Savannah Road, offer scrub and freshwater marsh walking with a per-vehicle fee and daytime hours. Trail access can change with weather and construction, so check Florida State Parks for current conditions before you go.

Choose Your Setting

Where Should You Live in Jensen Beach?

Explore six settings before narrowing your search. Boundaries, amenities, and available homes should be confirmed for each address.

Downtown Jensen Beach

For buyers who want restaurants, shops, and events close by. Housing varies around the downtown core, and proximity to activity can mean more traffic and noise at certain hours. Visit at the times you would actually be out.

Indian River Drive and Lagoon Waterfront

Homes along Indian River Drive and the lagoon appeal to buyers who want water views or boating. The neighboring community of Rio is its own place with its own boundaries, so compare it separately. Verify water depth, bridge clearance, dock rights, seawall condition, and permits for each parcel.

Skyline Drive Area and Higher Ground

Parts of Jensen Beach sit well above the low coastal elevation found in most of the community, which can change the view, the slope of a lot, and flood exposure. Elevation varies street by street, so check each address's elevation and flood zone rather than assuming.

Golf-Adjacent Living

Jensen Beach Golf Club, on NW Royal Oak Drive, offers membership tiers and posts public green fees on its website, so confirm current options with the club. Buyers looking at homes near the course should not assume membership, golf access, or fees are included with a purchase. Ask the club and the association for current terms in writing.

Hutchinson Island and Oceanfront

Beachside condominiums and homes put the Atlantic close, with Jensen Sea Turtle Beach near the causeway. Martin County keeps the island's oceanfront low-rise, with a four-story limit in many areas, and many island roads are private. Height and setback rules can vary by parcel, so confirm them with Martin County. Review condominium financials, building inspection records, insurance, rental rules, and storm exposure.

Inland Neighborhoods and Preserve Edges

West of US 1 and around Jensen Beach Boulevard, established single-family neighborhoods and larger lots sit near lakes and preserve land. Compare lot size, drainage, association rules, and insurance costs rather than assuming every inland home carries the same exposure.

Golf and Club Options

Membership structures vary, and buyers should confirm access, fees, and any ownership ties in writing before relying on assumptions.

An 18-hole course on NW Royal Oak Drive. The club's website lists several membership tiers, including 12-month, 6-month, and summer options, along with public green fees. Confirm current options and terms directly with the club.

Island Dunes Country Club

A private club on Hutchinson Island serving the Island Dunes community with golf, tennis, and pickleball. The club's website says property owners are automatically members and that non-owner memberships are also offered. Confirm membership terms, costs, and access with the club before you buy.

Understand the Tradeoffs

What to Appreciate—and What to Consider

What Buyers Often Love

A walkable downtown with events and local restaurants; Atlantic beach access and lagoon boating within the same community; a range of home types, from condominiums to larger inland lots; a small-town feel with Stuart's services nearby.

What to Weigh Carefully

Flood and wind exposure, especially near the water and on the island; traffic at the causeway and A1A during beach and season peaks; condominium assessments and building inspection requirements; septic versus sewer, and lagoon water-quality conditions; public transit that may be limited or change.

The right Jensen Beach setting depends on how you balance walkability, water access, beach proximity, and ownership costs.

Relocation Costs

Before You Relocate: Understand the Full Cost

Florida's homestead exemption and Save Our Homes cap apply to eligible owners, with new applications due March 1, so confirm details with the Martin County Property Appraiser at (772) 288-5608.
